McDonough Invitational – VASJ

9.17.16 ~ East Cleveland, Ohio
The Mentor boys and girls fought the elements this past weekend at McDonough. The rain made the course full of mud and other tough conditions. Even though there was not an increase in personal records broken, many good things came out of this weekend. Both the girls and the boys teams used the hill to their advantage while maintaining control down and up it. While the boys and girls varsity were running the course there was a full team support to cheer them on up the hill and through other parts of the fairly challenging course. The boys open saw a great amount of underclassmen properly pacing themselves and using the hill to their advantage making sure to pass people on the way. There was a great chemistry of running between Sean Reardon and Isaac Mansi as each runner made sure to not let the other fall behind. Race results can found on the McDonough Invitational race page.

Spartan Invitational – Varsity Only

9.17.16 ~ Boardman, Ohio

Strongsville Invitational

9.24.16 ~ Strongsville, Ohio
The boys took on Strongsville’s Fleet Feet invitational this week and produced some very good results. The varsity squad placed 5th overall in very competitive field as the team practiced their pack running in a major way. Eight of the nine varsity runners took off in a pack and held it for almost two miles before they started to race for the line, and six of the boys finished with 13 seconds of one another. Matt Bull once again broke the school record, lower it from his previous best to 15:22. Michael Ferro and Tyler Fuerst also had a very strong races as they led the pack and kept it on pace. In the JV race many athletes shined at Nate Warner won with a time of 17:22, Ben Nagle crushed his old PR and ran a time of 18:30, while Drew Wolf was an emotional leader of the team and broke 20 for the first time. Race results can be found on the Strongsville Invitational race page.

Gilmour Invitational

9.30.16 ~ Gates Mills, Ohio
The mens and womens teams put their heart and soul in the Gilmour invitational this past Friday. Due to weather conditions the course became muddy and cold for the runners. Even with these conditions we have had a lot of runners place well and for some obtain a personal records. The mens varsity finished strong and helped cheer on the rest of the team. In the men’s open, the boys were challenged with a rigorous course due to the multiple conditions but finished with a lot of spirit even though most did not see a personal record. Austin gained a personal record by 10 seconds. He was one of the few who set a personal record. Even though there weren’t a lot of records broken, the men and women put in their 100% effort. Race results can be found on the Gilmour Invitational race page.

Midwest Meet of Champions

10.1.16 ~ Hilliard, Ohio
This weekend, members of the boys team ran at the Midwest Meet of Champions at Hilliard Bradley High School. The varsity team came in 6th place even though they weren’t expected to place better than 10th place. The JV team came in 2nd, losing the tiebreaker for 1st place to Lancaster. While the course was an estimated 15 to 30 seconds slow, athletes still ran amazingly. Michael Ferro broke 17 for the first time this season, with a time of 16:59. Greater Cleveland Conference XC Meet

10.15.16 ~ Strongsville, Ohio
This week the teams competed at their conference meet at Strongsville high school. This is the teams second time running the course this season and most athletes bettered their previous time or were only a few seconds off. Both the varsity and junior varsity sides finished 3rd to two state ranked sides in Solon (1) and Medina. While both teams were outside the top two they narrowed the gap with both teams, indicating great races to come. Micheal Ferro(16:40) and Tyler Fuerst (16:25) both had great races which rooted the teams high finish. Sal Rocco led the team in the JV race, finishing 3rd overall. After this weekend, the team will continue onto districts and hopefully deeper into the post season with confidence. Race results can be found on the GCC race page.
